Diamonds - April Birthstone

Symbol of clarity and strength

Diamonds radiate color. Wearing diamond jewelry is like having a mini prism reflecting rainbows everywhere.

Diamonds come in a range of colors. Where the fancier the color the more rare and expensive. Chemicals that surround the diamonds can alter the diamonds color. Blue diamonds are caused by the presence of boron impurities, the more boron the deeper the blue. Green diamonds are formed when radiation displaces the carbon in the crystal structure. The diamond deposits lie near radioactive rocks.

Nature is unbelievable and beautiful in how it creates diamonds

In the 1700's, Brazil became an important source of diamonds. Gold miners discovered diamonds as they were panning in the gravels and rivers. Diamonds are now minded around the world. How cool would it be to mine for diamonds and other gemstones??

Most mines are commercial mines. Although there is a mine in Arkansas called Crater of Diamonds the is a pay to mine diamond site. The state of Arkansas took the mine over in 1972 and made it a state park. Visitors can camp at the park and pay a daily price to mine for diamonds and any other gemstones that naturally form there. Visitors can rent equipment to pan for stones and the workers are trained to help identify items found.
